From theory to practice as a trainee at Hannover Re: With around 4,000 employees worldwide, we are one of the leading reinsurers with a presence on every continent. In our 18-month trainee programme, you will get to know the entirety of life and health reinsurance, including processes, the global network and concepts. Life and health reinsurance covers everything to do with biometric risks and operates the life, health and pension insurance lines. During the different stages, one of which you will spend at a location abroad, you will have the opportunity to gain insights into various specialist areas of life and health reinsurance. Upon completion of the programme, you will transition into a permanent role within one of our specialist departments. Become part of our international team! 

You can look forward to

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of life and health reinsurance, including its processes, global network, as well as reinsurance concepts and solutions
  • Work in our various market and service departments, provide support in areas such as pricing, data analyses and presentations and get in touch with customers 
  • Take on tasks independently from day one and work on projects, during which you will be closely supported by your mentor throughout the entire programme
  • Gain experience at one of our international locations during a stay abroad lasting several months 
  • Participate in the design of your trainee programme and set an individual focus according to your interests, e.g. we support your DAV training as an actuary 
  • Experience an open and innovative corporate culture in which your ideas are valued

You come equipped with

  • Excellent master's degree in mathematics
  • Knowledge of a programming language such as R, Julia or Python is an advantage
  • Initial practical experience through internships or working student positions, ideally in the finance or insurance sector 
  • Experience abroad, e.g. through semesters abroad, language trips, work & travel programmes desirable 
  • Proficient user skills in English, conversational German or willingness to learn this language in one of our language courses
  • Strong communication and presentation skills as well as an interest in familiarising yourself comprehensively with the life and health reinsurance business
