Associate Underwriter
We are currently hiring a Underwriter to join the P&C Facultative team in Malaysian Branch. This role is to develop and maintain a profitable Cyber Insurance portfolio across all markets within the Malaysian Branch’s territorial scope.

Underwriting and Risk Management
- Implement and monitor underwriting strategy, policy, guidelines and controls consistent with Group objectives and directives, and consistent with client group focus to set the Company strategy.
- Assure the quality of technical risk reviews and acceptances and stipulation of reinsurance conditions in accordance with underwriting guidelines, authorities, targets and client strategies. This includes in- depth knowledge of all tools and models used in the underwriting process to evaluate underwriting data to make appropriate underwriting decisions within the scope of authority while achieving profitability targets.
- Coordinate with various internal partners such as operations, risk management, claims and compliance on portfolio management tasks to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Analyze and evaluate new developments and trends in the market to establish an overview and support in product enhancement and development including support in evaluating, quantifying and mitigating risk appropriately via product pricing and monitoring.
Business Development
- Develop and grow a sustainable book of business and explore new business potentials through active development of relationships vis-a-vis clients and brokers across regions.
- Good mastery of all aspects of relevant knowledge to the product as well as the product’s ecosystem, partnerships, develops and decides on product strategy, which supports long-term business development.
- Build partnerships with relevant businesses (beyond clients and brokers) to understand their strategy, evaluate specific opportunities, gain business sponsorship, and identify specific activities to deliver strategic value to HRMB’s business
Innovation/Ideation/New business
- Implement alternate ways of landing and retaining clients e.g. by pricing change, enhancement in plan designs and new service offerings, to meet customer needs and at the same time, achieve business goals.
- Work closely with cross-functional colleagues e.g. Property, Specialty, Services, etc to cross-sell, grow new business and leverage HRMB’s position.
- Lead and initiate projects to underwrite new, innovative and non-traditional products and services related to their responsible Line of Business in close cooperation with other units and external partners. This includes coverage and rate development, underwriting, product performance management, risk modelling, technology and analytics services solutioning and thought leadership relative to assigned opportunities.
- Uncover and translate consumer, technology, innovation ecosystems and business insights into actionable product strategies and experience strategies.
- Develop value propositions, key user scenarios, and frameworks to communicate strategic directions.
Data/Knowledge Base Contribution
- Build and leverage existing and new data/information sources and partnerships to provide underwriting value in accordance with data standards, underwriting guidelines, limits and pricing/rating procedures.
Internal Operations Contribution
- Develop the strategic plans for their line of business, territory and ensure integration of these plans into an improved annual result, forecast and budget process.
- Support internal operational efficiencies and data projects (e.g., enhanced internal and external audit processes, CRM project, data transformation project) by sponsoring projects for improving internal operations and data collection or application, trialling and evaluating proposed systems and coordinating the roll-out of new systems
You come equipped with
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ working experience in insurance with a blend of technical cybersecurity knowledge, liability insurance expertise and strong analytical skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Business, Actuarial Science, or related field.
- Good understanding of Liability or Cyber Insurance products, market practice, underwriting principles, pricing models, and reinsurance structures.
- Proven ability to develop and execute underwriting strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, trends, and loss experience to make sound underwriting decisions.
- Willingness to travel worldwide for business
- An entrepreneurial, international and strategic mindset, combined with negotiation skills and excellent communication abilities
