Team Manager, Casualty and Financial Lines
We are currently hiring a Team Manager, Casualty and Financial Lines to join the P&C team in Malaysian Branch. The role is to develop and maintain a profitable book of Casualty and Financial Lines portfolio across all markets within the territorial scope of the Malaysian Branch .

- Responsible for the maintenance of UW team’s capabilities including attracting, recruiting and retaining required members of the team
- Lead, manage and mentor juniors to achieve high performance through ongoing coaching and provide structured development plan
- Set and clarify KPI and behavioural expectations during the goal setting stage to ensure alignment of expectations between managers and employees
- Monitor and track performance to enable attainment of business objectives and initiate change if necessary.
- Drive Casualty and Financial Lines segment in a way that actively manages the portfolio and maintaining UW discipline in the current market cycle to ensure continued profitability of the book.
- Establish underwriting strategy for line of business and implement and monitor underwriting strategy, policy, guidelines, and controls consistent with Group objectives and directives, and consistent with client group focus.
- Develop and grow a sustainable book of business and exploit new business potentials through active development of relationships vis-a-vis clients and brokers across regions.
- Master all aspects of relevant knowledge to the product as well as the product’s ecosystem, partnerships, develops and decides on product strategy, which supports long-term business development.
- Build partnerships with relevant businesses (beyond clients and brokers) to understand their strategy, evaluate specific opportunities, gain business sponsorship, and identify specific activities to deliver strategic value to HRMB’s business.
- Report on all Hannover Re underwriting matters
- Responsible of the P&L under the supervision of the head of department
- Build and leverage existing and new data/information sources and partnerships to provide underwriting value in accordance with data standards, underwriting guidelines, limits and pricing/rating procedures.
- Develop strategic plans for line of business, territory and ensure integration of these plans into an improved annual result, forecast and budget process.
- Support internal operational efficiencies and data projects (e.g., enhanced internal and external audit processes, CRM data transformation project) by sponsoring projects for improving internal operations and data collection or application, trialling and evaluating proposed systems and coordinating the roll-out of new systems.
- Ensure team members have a clear understanding of underwriting and pricing guidelines and are proficient in the use of all applicable underwriting and pricing tools.
- Develop and mentor team members in line with the core values and strategic principles of HRMB.
You come equipped with
- Minimum of 5 years’ working experience in risk management within insurance or reinsurance industry with a strong background in Casualty and Financial Lines underwriting.
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Business, Actuarial Science, or related field.
- Proven track record in risk management for industry providers.
- Strong understanding of Casualty and Financial Lines products, market practice, underwriting principles, pricing models, and reinsurance structures.
- Proven ability to develop and execute underwriting strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Experience in portfolio management, risk assessment, pricing, and treaty/facultative arrangements.
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, trends, and loss experience to make sound underwriting decisions.
- Good negotiation skills and ability to deliver excellent customer service.

- Problem-solving skills and a logical approach to work.
