Underwriter
We are currently hiring a Underwriter to join the P&C team in Malaysian Branch. This role is to underwrite existing and new business under the area of responsibility, and ensure underwriting efficiency. In addition, to deliver excellent customer service, identify new business opportunities in the markets, developing business relationship with our clients.
This role reports to the Team Manager.
You can look forward to
- Support the projects to underwrite new, innovative and non-traditional products and services related to their responsible Line of Business in close cooperation with other units and external partners.
- Contribute to underwriting strategy, policy, guidelines and controls consistent with Group objectives and directives, and consistent with client group focus to set the Company strategy.
- Contribute to strategic plans for their territory and ensure integration of these plans into an improved annual result, forecast and budget processes.
- Develop and grow a sustainable book of business and exploit new business potentials through active development of relationships vis-a-vis clients and brokers across regions.
- Build and leverage existing and new data/information sources and partnerships to provide underwriting value in accordance with data standards, underwriting guidelines, limits and pricing/rating procedures.
- Analyse and evaluate new developments and trends in the market to establish an overview and support in product enhancement and development including support in evaluating, quantifying and mitigating risk appropriately via product pricing and monitoring.
You come equipped with
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry, with a background in property underwriting.
- Proficient in at least one of the Asian regional languages, as you will be dealing with clients from various markets across Southeast Asia & South Asia.
- Excellent contract wording and interpretation abilities as you will be formulating policies for the Branch.
- Capable of managing and optimizing clients’ portfolios.
- Professional experience in data, digital, technology, and innovation in the Property and Insurance industries is a plus.
- Regional underwriting experience is an advantage, as you will be responsible for various markets within the region and the review of potential new Property line of businesses.
- Strong analytical abilities and underwriting judgement.
- Ability to solve problems using sound judgement and data analysis
- Ability to prioritise, multitask and perform tasks independently.
- Technical knowledge of the insurance and reinsurance industry and its operations.
- Effective communicator in writing, business presentations and interpersonal communication as you will be liaising with our internal and external stakeholders.
