AVP, Large Case Underwriter

Job Summary:
Provides sound underwriting judgment in evaluating large (> $10 million) facultative risks forwarded from client companies, meets Hannover Re’s turn-around-time standards while making selectively aggressive underwriting offers, and focuses on meeting or exceeding client needs and expectations through effective communication.
Essential Functions:
(65%) Provides sound medical, financial, and nonmedical underwriting decisions on all facultative cases within approval authority (up to $15 million) and within Hannover Re’s time service standards to ensure competitive offers are made that will allow profitable business to be ceded to HLR. Backup co-signer when VP and Chief Underwriter are not available in order to allow underwriters to get offers out in a timely manner.
(15%) Communicates effectively and extensively with external clients regarding underwriting decisions on facultative cases and on underwriter inquiries, and provides technical support and opinions as requested to ensure clear understanding for the basis of the decision made or the support/opinions provided, allowing the client to realize the value of Hannover Re’s underwriting expertise.
(10%) Provides support for Actuarial, Administrative, and Marketing departments to assist them with the overall understanding of clients’ underwriting strengths and weaknesses from the day-to-day facultative interactions with client underwriters, chief underwriters, and client management.
(5%) Represents Hannover Re at national, regional, and/or local underwriting meetings to increase the visibility of Hannover Re in the industry and enhance Hannover Re’s position as a knowledge reinsurer.
(5%) Participates in client visits or client audits as requested to provide underwriting knowledge and skills for the task required.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Undergraduate degree or related experience
Minimum of 12 years underwriting experience, including large case underwriting
Minimum of 3 years of reinsurance underwriting experience
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle a wide variety of duties
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Broad direct and reinsurance underwriting experience
Basic Level computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, etc.)
Industry course work/designations such as FALU, FLMI, CLU, etc.
Travel:
Overnight travel required up to 5% of the time in the continental USA
Compensation (Inclusive of Base + Bonus):
$144,400 - $195,400
