Job Summary:

The Cloud Engineer – Artificial Intelligence is responsible for collaborating with the Hannover Re Cloud Team in the growth and development of the cloud technology framework and providing technical support in cloud computing and automation with a specific focus on AI technologies. This role includes assisting in cultural change for cloud adoption, contributing to the further development of the cloud architecture, and supporting the adoption process of cloud-native and AI-driven technologies. The Cloud Engineer will need to analyze system requirements to ensure systems are securely integrated with current applications and services while ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and disaster recovery. This position requires strong communication and collaboration skills to empower and connect the business and the Group IT organization.

Essential Functions:

(35%) Artificial Intelligence:

• Define scope and analyze requirements for AI projects, collaborating with stakeholders to gather and document functional and technical requirements.
• Develop, train, and optimize AI models using state-of-the-art methodologies, ensuring they meet project specifications and are seamlessly integrated with cloud services.
• Implement and manage the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) framework, along with index creation and maintenance to enhance information retrieval and AI performance.
• Oversee the configuration, unit testing, deployment, and integration of AI solutions, providing technical guidance and resolving issues throughout the process.
• Provide ongoing support and continual optimization for AI models post-deployment, ensuring they meet both technical and functional/non-functional requirements.

(35%) Cloud Engineering:

• Assist in the development and maintenance of cloud architecture and implementation features such as multi-tenancy, virtualization, and elastic scalability.
• Support DevOps tool chains and processes.
• Help in the development of solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public, and hybrid cloud models.
• Contribute to complex development tasks and activities within the DevOps framework.
• Implement and optimize data pipelines using cloud technologies.

(20%) Collaborative Engagement:

• Support thought leadership efforts by contributing to discussions around how technology can support organizational goals.
• Advocate for cloud architecture from a strategic perspective, including platforms, tools, and systems.
• Collaborate with data scientists to implement and optimize AI and Document Intelligence models.

(10%) Mentorship and Learning:

• Work with senior team members to gain knowledge and guidance on various tasks and projects.
• Contribute to a cohesive team environment and assist in developing best practices in cloud architecture and management.
• Learn and implement industry best practices for AI model building in the cloud environment.

Essentials knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience
• 3 + years of experience in cloud and\or AI 
• Good understanding of AI model building and machine learning concepts.
• 1+ year experience with AI models and their application within cloud environments.
• Good understanding of cloud architecture, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.
• Familiarity with cloud service providers such as Azure, AWS, or VMWare.
• Basic competence in DevOps practices and tool chains.
• Understanding of network architecture, security protocols, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript).
• Basic knowledge of database management systems and middleware.
• Experience with system integration and application development methodologies.
• Understanding of data pipeline implementation and optimization.
• Experience or interest in working with AI frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong analytical abilities to understand system requirements and design solutions.
• Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues and recommend effective solutions.

• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Capability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Azure and\or AWS associate level certifications (professional level preferred)
• Intermediate knowledge of security concepts (firewalls, identity management, etc.)
• Strong presentation skills

• Experience as an AI Engineer preferred

Travel:

• Position will require up to 10% overnight travel to domestic and international locations

Total Compensation (Inclusive of Base + Bonus):

• $129,500 - $175,300
