Azure Cloud Engineer

Responsibilities
In the role of system engineer for the Hannover Re Shanghai Branch's cloud platform (China Azure), you are responsible for the support, administration and further development of infrastructure-related services. Specifically, this encompasses:
- Supporting and further developing the Azure cloud infrastructure operated worldwide
- Creating platform-related services such as subscriptions, authorisations, network infrastructures, as well as supervising and monitoring them
- Further development and standardisation of the platform using Bicep and Terraform
- Advising and supporting our colleagues, both in IT and in the specialist units for life & health and property & casualty reinsurance
- Advising and familiarising our developers with regard to new capabilities and functions in the Azure cloud
- Dealing with requests and problem reports as well as documenting them in the ticket system (incident, problem and change management)
- Guiding developers in adopting new Azure cloud capabilities and functionalities
- Supporting on the development and maintainance of a high standard of cloud security, implementing and managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies using Azure Active Directory and Azure Role-Based Access Control(RBAC)
- Supporting on the design and overseeing of robust backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies using Azure-native tools (e.g., Azure Backup, Recovery Services Vaults)
- Understanding Group ServiceNow and working together with the Hannover colleagues to support self-service implementation for local Azure topcis
- Overseeing Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and implementing risk mitigation strategies
- Leading the implementation of Azure cloud solutions for the China region
In addition, in your capacity as supplier manager you are responsible for managing service providers and vendors – which includes among other things coordinating over manufacturing costs, clarifying cost assumption and allocation type – and you serve as the first point of contact for purchase orders and the factual approval of invoices.
Requirements
- Several years of experience with Cloud platforms (MS Azure +)
- Basic knowledge of network environments
- Understanding of IT infrastructures as well as enthusiasm for agile projects (Scrum, Kanban)
- Knowledge of automation (e.g. Azure DevOps, Azure Automation and Azure Function Apps) and scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Bicep, Terraform)
- Solid experience with Azure security tools (Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Sentinel), and a deep understanding of Azure Active Directory and RBAC
- Experience with Azure backup and recovery solutions
- In-depth understanding of China's data regulations and a proven ability to ensure compliance in cloud architectureDegree in computer science / business IT or comparable qualification with professional experience
- Proficient user skills in Mandarin and English
- Strong project leadership: Ability to take ownership of key initiatives, manage project timelines, and coordinate cross-regional stakeholders to deliver results on schedule
- Excellent communication and coordination skills: Capable of bridging technical and business teams, ensuring clear alignment on project goals and progress
- Proven experience in end-to-end project delivery: Prior involvement in Azure cloud implementation or migration projects is highly desirable
- Technical mastery: In-depth hands-on experience in Azure platform management and operations, with a focus on scalable and compliant solutions
- Willingness to travel worldwide on business, twice or more a year
