We are seeking a Chief Risk and Compliance officer to join the branch. The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our Managing Director.
About the role
As our Chief Risk and Compliance Officer you will be responsible for assisting management in effectively balancing its commercial priorities with its risk and regulatory compliance requirements by maintaining our risk management and compliance programs and providing a ‘challenge and advice’ function within business decision making processes.
The role is an accountable person under the Financial Accountability Regime, as jointly administered by ASIC and APRA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The role has two strategic imperatives:
- Effectively challenge - as an independent Line 2 function - the activities and decisions that materially affect HRAB’s risk profile; and
- Co-ordinate with the Branch Leadership Team, the development, implementation, continuous improvement and monitoring of the Risk Management and Compliance Management Frameworks in accordance with APRA Prudential Standards and Hannover Group Guidelines.
In achieving these strategic imperatives, the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer is responsible for a range of areas including but not limited to:
- Developing and overseeing an efficient Risk Management Framework (RMF) tailored to the organization’s size and operations, ensuring compliance with APRA Prudential Standards and our Risk Appetite Statement.
- Partnering with business units to embed risk frameworks and policies, conducting risk assessments, supporting risk owners, and ensuring compliance within the approved Risk Appetite.
- Managing compliance registers and processes, including service provider due diligence, complaints, incidents, breaches, and notification systems aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Providing expert advice and reporting to the Board, Senior Executive, and Management on risk and compliance matters, while supporting regulatory relationships and industry representation.
- Ensuring robust compliance frameworks, testing programs, and data governance in adherence to our Obligations Register and Data Governance Policy.
- Developing and delivering risk and compliance training programs while maintaining your own professional development, addressing Hannover Office and regulatory reporting needs.

About You:
Experience & Qualifications:
- Technical expertise in Risk Management systems, statutory frameworks, and APRA regulations.
- Proven experience across all aspects of risk and compliance management in Re/insurance or Financial Services.
- Relevant degree (finance, law, accounting, or Risk and Compliance) and certifications like CPRM or Governance Institute qualifications.
- Proficiency in Enterprise Risk Management frameworks aligned with APRA standards.
- Capability to act as an Accountable Person under FAR.
- Strong strategic thinking capability.
- Effective communication, people management, and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
