We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Life & Health subsidiary in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally.
We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join our team. The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our Finance Manager.

About the role
As a Financial Accountant you will be responsible for the delivery of all aspects financial accounting to both group head office and local regulators. The position also proactively supports local and global strategic initiatives, within and outside of finance, and drives finance change.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation and delivery of IFRS and SII reporting packages
- Preparation of local regulatory and statutory reporting including Annual Reports, APRA reporting, and RBNZ reporting
- Support the income tax provisioning and returns process for Australia and New Zealand
- Develop and maintain management information processes by analysing, understanding and presenting underlying finance data along with insightful commentary to a wide variety of stakeholders
- Develop relationships with key internal stakeholders such as client solution, pricing and actuarial valuation teams to understand and challenge financial results
- Proactively identify and lead process improvement initiatives in Finance and support such initiatives in the wider local or global organisation
- Act as finance business partner by working with internal stakeholders on strategic initiatives and providing accounting, finance and tax advice
- Support the delivery of finance elements of at annual business planning process
- Support annual cost budgeting and forecasts – build the expense budget each year and track results by account/cost centres.

About You:
Experience & Qualifications:
We’re looking for a finance professional with advanced Excel and financial data analysis capability, supported by a recognised accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent). You’ll bring strong relationship management skills, the confidence to work with senior leaders and the ability to think strategically.
You’ll be highly organised, detail focused, and able to prioritise effectively. Clear written and verbal communication is essential, as are strong analytical and problem solving skills. You should be comfortable working independently while also contributing effectively within a team.
You will already have experience working with accounting standards IFRS 9, 15 and 17 alongside having knowledge of local reporting, regulatory and tax landscape in Australia and New Zealand.
But more than this we are looking for the right person who brings a blend of technical skills and experience with highly effective and well-developed communication and collaboration skills along with an internal drive for continual improvement. The right person brings a positive, solutions focussed attitude that has allowed them to overcome challenges and support the success of previous teams to look past what is currently in place and focus on understanding what the business needs for future success.
