We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Life & Health subsidiary in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally.
We are seeking a Senior Reinsurance Specialist to join our team. The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our Reinsurance Team Manager.

As a Senior Reinsurance Specialist you will be responsible for assisting the Life Reinsurance Team Manager with quality checking requirements, payment authorisation, staff training, day-to-day workflow management for the reinsurance team and processing both technical accounts and claims recoveries while ensuring transactions are in accordance with the terms and conditions of the relevant contracts.
Although this role does not have any direct reports, you will be required to step in and cover for the manager on occasion and have demonstrated experience in this capacity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and allocate workflow among Reinsurance Specialists, ensuring high-quality output within delegated authorities.
- Apply reinsurance treaty terms and product disclosure statements accurately to data processing and claims settlement.
- Identify team training needs and deliver on-the-job coaching.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for reinsurance processes including during business transformation, system migration, and regulatory initiatives.
- Coordinate project deliverables and timelines with cross-functional teams for successful implementation.
- Act as an alternate contact for the Reinsurance Team and support new business and process integration for stakeholders.
- Prepare and deliver month-end and quarterly reporting requirements, including review of client accounts and premium estimates.
- Interpret, analyse, and record revenue transactions and statistical data within business systems, ensuring proper allocation of cash and open items.
- Calculate and settle local retrocession, co-reinsurance arrangements, and profit commissions.
- Support internal and external audits by liaising with auditors and preparing required documentation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Cedants and internal teams, fostering effective communication and continuous process improvement.
- Monitor operational items and contribute to ongoing process updates and documentation.
- Provide input and sign-off (as required) for new business onboarding activities.

Experience & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in life reinsurance operations or life insurance accounting in Australian/New Zealand markets, with strong knowledge of reinsurance treaties across retail, group, and longevity lines. They are skilled in processing and reconciling complex accounts and claims in accordance with treaty terms.
They have supported audits by preparing documentation and liaising with auditors and have led or contributed to operational projects such as treaty onboarding, system changes, and process improvements.
They have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities along with experience coaching junior staff and managing team workflows.
They are proficient in reporting and analytics tools (preferably Power BI, MicroStrategy, SAP), advanced in Excel, and familiar with other data tools like SQL and R.
