We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Life & Health subsidiary in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally.
We are seeking a Senior Underwriting Consultant. The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our Chief Underwriter.

As a Senior Underwriting Consultant you will be responsible for supporting the Chief Underwriter in the ongoing development of underwriting services to our clients and various training, research and development, marketing and project initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertaking day to day line underwriting
- Assessing referrals from ceding offices in a timely and accurate fashion
- Assessing Group Life business in a timely and accurate fashion
- Assisting the Chief Medical Officer and the underwriting team to instil consistency in underwriting assessment standards and service delivery
- Adhering to Hannover Life Re Underwriting philosophies and procedures
- Conducting/participating in underwriting reviews on treaty clients
- Completing and participating in project work
- Assisting Claims with Retro underwriting activities
- Identifying errors and opportunities for improvement
- Participating in the delivery of training activities with ceding offices
- Assisting with marketing activities to create brand awareness
- Building engagement with all clients, understanding their product and underwriting needs and responding adequately
- In conjunction with your leader and team, identifying opportunities and continuing to improve ways of working that remove waste, duplication or risk and improving team, customer and/or business outcomes
- Contributing to keeping business processes up to date
You come equipped with
Experience & Qualifications:
- Significant industry experience in underwriting function
- Degree qualified and/or equivalent professional life insurance underwriting qualifications/accreditation (or is working towards its completion) e.g. ALUCA, ANZIFF
- Strong technical skills medically and financially and in analysing, evaluating and identifying risk
- Negotiation skills
- Thorough life insurance knowledge with an understanding of changing market dynamics
- People and relationship management skills
- Strategic thinking capabilities
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail and ability to prioritise effectively
- Clear and effective communication both written and verbal
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Advanced level MS Office skills
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and deliver results
