We are a major player in the Life & Health reinsurance market in Australia and New Zealand and we have the benefit of being small and nimble but with the financial backing of one of the largest reinsurers in the world.  We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Life & Health subsidiary in Sydney which plays a major part in the success of Hannover Re globally. 

 

We are seeking a Senior Valuation Actuary to join our team. The role will be a permanent position reporting directly to our Valuation Manager.

About the role

As Senior Valuation Actuary you will be responsible for the on-going actuarial management of the in-force book, which includes conducting quarterly valuations, performing experience investigations as well as other actuarial analyses, and reporting on the results to stakeholders. 

In addition to this, the position will be responsible for performing independent reviews of work performed by others and contribution to/participation in actuarial department or company-wide initiatives and projects.


Duties and Responsibilities:

•    On-going actuarial management of the in-force book by performing quarterly valuations, actuarial analyses, experience investigations and reporting.
•    Monitor and report on client specific experience/issues arising, business insights on product experience and potential trends identified.
•    Assist the Valuation Manager and other Team leaders/departments on various initiatives and actuarial-led or company-wide projects.
•    Identify, plan and execute process improvements within the actuarial team for improved quality and efficiency of actuarial output.
•    Build and develop good working relations both within local and other departments of the Hannover Re Group

You come equipped with

About You:

Experience & Qualifications:
•    Qualified actuary (FIAA or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ post qualification experience in the Australian Life insurance industry (or equivalent)
•    Relevant valuation experience with strong understanding of projection modelling principles and methodologies 
•    Technical proficiency with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Strong/Advanced level Microsoft Excel skills
•    Knowledge of Risk Agility/MoSes/Prophet, R, SQL, VBA and Power BI is desirable
•    Agile with strong prioritisation & time management skills
•    Able to work as part of the actuarial team with minimal supervision
•    Strong stakeholder management skills
•    Clear and effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
•    Excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
