Hannover Re Canada is currently seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Associate Financial Reporting Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance team in our Canada Office on a permanent, full-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in financial and regulatory reporting, while developing technical accounting knowledge and exposure to international reporting require-ments.

Job Summary:

As an Associate Financial Reporting Accountant, you will assist with the preparation of bal-ance sheets, income statements, and supporting reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal and external standards. You will play a key role in supporting internal control pro-cesses, assisting with reconciliations, and contributing to audits and group projects. This po-sition also provides cross-over opportunities with our Technical Accounting team, to build a well-rounded understanding of accounting operations.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Assisting with the preparation of statements, commentaries, and supporting docu-mentation for Group Reporting as well as OSFI Reporting.
•    Supporting the set-up, execution, and documentation of internal control processes re-lating to financial reporting requirements, including maintaining and updating process documentation.
•    Reviewing and interpreting balance sheets, income statements, and reconciliation re-ports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
•    Helping to identify and address risks relating to financial and regulatory reporting.
•    Providing support to the local team in resolving reconciliation issues.
•    Gaining exposure to BI tools integrated with SAP and supporting data-driven report-ing.
•    Supporting both external and internal audit processes.
•    Assisting with group projects that focus on process improvement and efficiency across the end-to-end reporting cycle.
•    Working closely with the Technical Accounting team to gain exposure to specialized accounting practices and requirements.

You come equipped with

 

Educational Background:
•    Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent training.

 

Experience & Qualifications:
•    Approximately 2 years of accounting or financial reporting experience, ideally in the in-surance, reinsurance, or financial services industry.
•    Familiarity with IFRS (versions 9 & 17) is an asset.
•    Exposure to SAP, MicroStrategy, Power BI, or similar reporting tools is an advantage.
•    Strong interest in financial reporting and a motivation to learn technical accounting concepts.
•    Solid numerical reasoning and analytical thinking skills.
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•    A collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
•    Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
