Hannover Re Canada is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our Accounting and Finance team in our Canadian Branch on a permanent, full-time basis.

 

The Finance Manager will lead our technical accounting processes and oversee the prepara-tion and review of balance sheets, income statements and related financial reports, ensuring accuracy, transparency and compliance with internal, regulatory and external reporting stand-ards.

 

This role will play an important part in strengthening internal controls, managing reconcilia-tions, supporting audits and contributing to key local and Group initiatives. The Finance Man-ager will also provide day-to-day leadership to a team comprising four technical accountants and two financial accountants and will report directly to the Branch CFO.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of the Finance team, including reviewing deliverables and supporting employees’ ongoing coaching, development and perfor-mance.
  • Oversee technical accounting processes, including the secondary or tertiary review and approval of accounts, as applicable.
  • Analyze financial movements and developments and assess their impact on the Ca-nadian Branch and its solvency position.
  • Manage all aspects of quarterly financial close including the preparation of statements, commentaries, and supporting documentation for Group Reporting as well as OSFI Reporting.
  • Support the establishment, execution and documentation of internal controls relating to financial reporting requirements, including maintaining and updating process docu-mentation.
  • Identify and help address risks relating to financial, regulatory and management reporting.
  • Helping to identify and address risks relating to financial and regulatory reporting.
  • Providing support to the local team in resolving reconciliation issues.
  • Liaise and coordinate with both external and internal audit.
  • Lead finance projects that focus on process improvement and efficiency across the end-to-end reporting cycle.
  • Ensure the appropriate tax accounting arrangements are maintained to allow tax liabili-ties to be calculated accurately in all material respects.
  • Collaborate with local and international stakeholders on Finance and Group initiatives.

You come equipped with

 

Educational Background:

  • Bachelors‘ degree in Finance, Business, Accounting or other related field

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience in the property and casualty insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • An accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) would be preferred.
  • Strong and current technical knowledge of International Financial Reporting Stand-ards (IFRS17 in particular) and processes implementation and development.
  • Brings a strong sense of business insight and customer focus, paired with a hands‑on, results‑driven, “can‑do” attitude.
  • Ability to support business development efforts with accounting interpretations and analysis of reinsurance solutions provided to cedants.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including experience working with sen-ior management.
  • Exposure to SAP, MicroStrategy, Power BI, or similar reporting tools is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

We offer a competitive hiring range of $110,000 to $160,000, pay will align with skills, knowledge and experience of the candidate.
