VP, Chief Medical Director
Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re) is currently seeking talented candidates for our open VP, Chief Medical Director position. Job Summary:
The Medical Director oversees the medical risk management within the company as it pertains to underwriting (including underwriting guideline development), product development, pricing, and marketing. This is the senior medical position at Hannover Re US and is responsible for managing a team of other Medical Directors.
Essential Functions:
- (30%)
Supports facultative and underwriting case referrals to offer guidance on complex medical cases to allow underwriters to make prudent yet competitive decisions on such cases to Hannover Re’s clients.
Assists in performing assessments of live rescission and contestable claims.

Provides strategic direction for medical underwriting.
Plans, organizes, leads and controls activities pertaining to medical review and the subordinate activities within the department.
Direct and coordinate short and long range planning to better define internal and external client company requirements.

Develops, maintains, and promotes ASCENT to our clients. Works with other Hannover Re offices (internationally) to develop and maintain regional versions of ASCENT. Manages the Hannover Re research team to develop content and update.
Provides continuous medical research and development related to underwriting guidelines, protective value studies, the advancement of underwriting automation, and use of data analytics.

Works closely with client companies to research and establish best practices for risk selection requirements and processes. Works on the underwriting process via the evaluation of client practices/guidelines/philosophies to ensure business ceded is profitable.
Interacts with the Chief Underwriters and Medical Directors at client companies in order to address technical underwriting issues and promote the benefits of working with Hannover Re.

Develops presentations for industry meetings on topics researched to demonstrate the company’s underwriting philosophy and medical expertise to the life industry.
Demonstrates leadership and promotes Hannover Re’s underwriting image through industry visibility, etc. to maintain Hannover Re’s professional standing within the life industry.
Participates in industry committees to support and promote continuous professional development within the underwriting profession.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Medical degree
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an insurance related field
- General management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle a wide variety of duties
- Medical research background
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Preferred 5 or more years reinsurance experience
- Broad direct and reinsurance underwriting experience
- Intermediate knowledge of computer applications (Excel, Word, Access, etc.)
- Industry coursework/designations
Travel:
- 10% - domestic and international overnight travel for conference presentations, industry meetings and client meetings.
Compensation (Inclusive of Base + Bonus):
- $329,400 - 445,600
