Chief Business Development Officer
Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd. is seeking candidates for our Chief Business Development Officer ("CBDO") position. The CBDO is a critical role, supporting the CEO in implementing the company’s strategy in relation to Life and Health (“L&H”) Business Development. At the heart of it, the CBDO, supports the profitable growth of the company’s L&H business portfolio while managing the in-force portfolio to realize its maximum potential.
On a day-to-day basis, the CBDO is responsible for structuring, pricing, negotiating, writing, documenting, reporting and monitoring existing and new treaties sourced in partnership with the Hannover Re worldwide network or directly from brokers or clients. He/she is also responsible for promoting Hannover Re Bermuda’s expertise on financial solutions and for general marketing.
The CBDO heads up the business development team and manages the team members on a day-to-day basis, supporting and mentoring their development. The employee shall also undertake such additional or other duties as the Company may reasonably require from time to time.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing tailor made reinsurance solutions to meet the needs of current and potential client.
- Actively pursuing new business opportunities with existing and new clients/business partners
- Overseeing treaty related duties of business development department (writing, reviewing, validating, registering, archiving)
- Developing pricing models and assumptions for various lines of business in various geographical locations
- Performing technical reviews of pricing and treaty wording and ensuring sign-off procedures are adhered to
- Ensuring compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements
- Promoting HLRB’s expertise in financial solutions by participating in/leading internal events
- Researching new markets and lines of business in order to diversify exposure
- Building and enhancing relationships with brokers, clients and other entities of Hannover Re
- Supporting the business planning and forecasting process
- Leading and contributing to the development of new tools and approaches
- Serving as a member of the company’s Risk Committee and Operational Council
Requirements:
- Fellow of Society of Actuaries, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or other life actuarial qualifications from a recognized professional body
- Minimum of 15 years of actuarial experience in pricing for life and health (re)insurance
- Minimum of 5 years management experience leading a team
- Technical experience in the specialist fields of financial reinsurance and/or mortality, morbidity, health and critical illness
- Geographical experience in our target markets of UK, Europe and Asia Pacific
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strong sales and marketing abilities
- Demonstrated success to support new business acquisition
- Creative mindset to develop new solutions depending on different regulations
- Assured approach to dealing with internal and external customers
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
The CBDO has the responsibility of overseeing multiple projects and producing quality deliverables on time with tight deadlines and be willing to put in extra hours to meet deadlines.
