Deputy Underwriter P&C
In Bermuda, the core subsidiary Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd. is a BMA regulated dual license reinsurer and has a focus on property catastrophe reinsurance contracts, mainly on an excess of loss basis, as well as on life & health business, mainly financial solutions. We offer reinsurance capacity on a global basis with more than USD 1.9 billion of gross reinsurance revenues.
We are currently seeking applicants for our DEPUTY UNDERWRITER position. The Deputy Underwriter will assist with all aspects of the underwriting function. This includes analyzing data metrics, reviewing and assessing identified risks, supporting the implementation of underwriting practices and assisting with the business planning process to meet client needs. This position shall also undertake other duties as the Company may reasonably require from time to time.
Main Responsibilities:
- Participate in the underwriting strategy and processes, including evaluation of submissions, analyzing and interpreting exposures and determining coverage, planning and controlling client activity in European markets such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and other territories as required.
- Calculate appropriate risk premium, exercise discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk assessments.
- Provide accurate pricing of reinsurance covers in the respective lines of business and provide active input for further enhancement of pricing tools when necessary.
- Utilize data analysis skills to identify trends, assess risk, and support underwriting decisions.
- Assist in the annual business planning process.
- Perform portfolio management analysis for European and international markets.
- Proactively engage with all stakeholders within the Group and build relationships with broker and clients with the objective of identifying new business opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with in a team environment to support the inclusive Company culture.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, international management, mathematics or a related field.
- Professional designation with an Actuarial degree considered an asset.
- A minimum of five (5) years of underwriting experience in the reinsurance or insurance industry with dedicated experience on the property catastrophe segment. Working knowledge of the European markets considered an asset.
- Detailed knowledge in the use of catastrophe models such as Verisk & RMS.
- Proven experience leading projects and complex accounts.
- Proficiency, written and verbal, in English. Similarly, territorial scope requires proficiency in German, willingness and commitment to acquire if not proficient.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills along with a strong work ethics and attention to detail.
- Ability to establish, maintain and expand business relationships at all levels.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and have the willingness to work additional hours as needed to meet business objectives.
