In Bermuda, the core subsidiary Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd. is a BMA regulated dual license reinsurer and has a focus on property catastrophe reinsurance contracts, mainly on an excess of loss basis, as well as on life & health business, mainly financial solutions. We offer reinsurance capacity on a global basis with more than USD 1.9 billion of gross reinsurance revenues.
We are currently seeking applicants for our HEAD OF COMPLIANCE position. This position acts as the local Head of the Compliance Function (“HCF”) for the legal entity and is responsible for overseeing and implementing the local compliance framework, ensuring the organization meets all applicable legal and regulatory obligations. This individual acts as contact liaison with the local regulator, monitors business activities for compliance risk and promotes a strong culture of ethics and compliance across the organization. This position will report to the Chief Risk Officer.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust compliance framework tailored to HR Bermuda’s regulatory landscape and Group requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure timely adaptation of internal policies and procedures.
- Lead internal compliance reviews, risk assessments, and reporting to senior management and regulators.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) and other regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with underwriting, finance, and operational teams to ensure compliance is integrated into business practices.
- Promote ethical conduct and provide training across the organization.
- Report compliance issues to ensure appropriate discussion takes place and effectively support correction measures.
- Assume responsibility of reviewing consultation papers issued by the BMA, BILTIR and ABIR, liaising with appropriate departments to collate responses, if needed, and putting together final responses.
- Maintain compliance with General Data Protection Regulations and domestic privacy laws (PIPA).
- Responsible for implementation and maintenance of appropriate policies, procedures, systems, records and reports to enable compliance with sanctions requirements for Bermuda and the Group.
- Monitor the outsourcing risk situation and inform the local management regularly about outsourcing risks.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or Accounting.
- Professional qualification such as ICA or equivalent.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience working in an international environment with compliance and corporate governance, financial systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as capability to assume responsibility for complex processes.
- Highly motivated self-starter who can operate independently and develop relationships.
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in order to deliver on key deadlines with a great attention to detail.
- Critical Judgement and high integrity with the ability to think independently and challenge the status quo to influence change.
