Senior Underwriter
We are currently seeking applicants for our SENIOR UNDERWRITER position. The Senior Underwriter plays a key role in supporting the Company’s strategic financial targets by underwriting P&C premiums in excess of USD 1 billion. This position will be responsible for overseeing a diverse and complex portfolio. The employee shall also undertake additional related duties from time to time.
Main Responsibilities:
- Manage an international portfolio of catastrophe risks which includes internal and external communication with cedants, brokers, and internal experts around the globe.
- Participate in the underwriting strategy and processes, including evaluation of submissions, analyzing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and planning and controlling client activity in global reinsurance markets with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and Middle East.
- Calculate appropriate risk premium, exercise discretion and independent judgement in the analysis and evaluation of risk assessments
- Negotiate within the limits of delegated authority and in accordance with internal guidelines, underwriting procedures and controls to achieve profit objectives.
- Support the business planning and forecasting process.
- Promote the company’s expertise by participating in industry conferences and events.
- Proactively engage with stakeholders within the Group and build and deepen relationships with broker and clients with the objective to identify new business opportunities.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment assisting and potentially mentoring junior members of the team and the management team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, law or a related field.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of underwriting experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry with dedicated experience on the property catastrophe segment.
- Proficiency, written and verbal, in English. Similarly, territorial scope requires proficiency in Spanish, willingness and commitment to acquire, if not proficient.
- Professional designation such as CPCU or ACII.
- Detailed understanding in the use of catastrophe models predominantly AIR.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills along with a strong work ethics and attention to detail.
- Ability to establish, maintain and expand business relationships at all levels.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and have the willingness to work additional hours as needed to meet business objectives.
